Diane Maloney is an enthusiastic proponent of financial planning. She is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and subscribes to its Code of Ethics and Standard of Care. She currently serves on the board of directors for her local FPA Council. In 2009 she traveled to Russia with an FPA delegation for the purpose of learning about the newly developing role of financial planning in that country. Diane has enjoyed answering phones for the joint FPA and USA Today's nationwide hotlines on various financial planning topics. She has assisted the CFP® International Board of Standards in writing and testing questions for the national CFP® qualifying exam. She also does pro bono work, assisting both the CFP® and the FPA in their efforts to improve financial literacy among the general public. In 2011 she volunteered to support the FPA's work with military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

All of Diane's clients come through referrals, especially from existing clients, but also from attorneys and CPAs or as a result of public presentations and press interviews. She has been interviewed on various financial planning topics and has been quoted in publications such as the Chicago Tribune, Journal of Financial Planning, Money Magazine, USA Today, Copley News Publications, and by writers from the Associated Press. In 2010 and 2011 she was designated in the Chicago Magazine as a Five Star Wealth Management Award Winner.

Diane R. Maloney is founder and president of Beacon Financial Planning Services, Ltd. She has worked as a financial planner since 1988. She achieved the certification of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER Professional in 1992. She enjoys working with a diverse group of clients throughout Illinois and in several other states and has traveled to China and Japan to meet with U.S. clients working overseas. Diane charges fees for financial consulting, comprehensive financial planning, and investment management. She is licensed to offer insurance and securities products and is a registered securities principal with Commonwealth Financial Network.

Diane Maloney graduated with honors from the University of Illinois, Urbana, and holds both BA and MA degrees. Formerly an educator, she received a Fulbright Scholarship from the U.S. Government to study micro economics in Egypt. She  also received a "Master Teacher" award and the "Those That Excel" award from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Diane has served on the board of directors of several  organizations and supports various church and community projects. She and her family are world travelers and love being outdoors. She enjoys herb gardening, hiking, swimming, and especially paddling her kayak. In addition, she loves to read and sew.

Kristin M. Johnson, Registered ParaplannerSM and Office Manager

Kristin joined the Beacon Financial Planning Services, Ltd. staff in February of 2004. Her previous business experiences in banking, accounting, and advanced computer technology have allowed her to handle the many facets of her role as Office Manager.  Her meticulous eye for detail and her dedication to keeping our day-to-day operations running efficiently supports Beacon's ability to focus on providing clients with the highest quality of customer service.  You may recognize her as the friendly voice that answers the phone and the first person to greet you when you enter our office.

 

Kristin's artistic abilities have also been used to create firm advertisements, our website, brochure and to coordinate our special client events.

In April, 2008, Kristin successfully completed her studies and national examination with the College of Financial Planning in Denver, CO to become a Registered ParaplannerSM.

Kristin's hobbies and interests include genealogy, photography, and painting. She also enjoys bowling, zumba, kayaking and traveling with her family and friends.

Mary Smith, Registered ParaplannerSM and Director of Financial Planning Services

Mary began working in the financial services industry in 1998 as an Administrative Assistant. Her responsibilities grew into playing a major role in founding Beacon Financial Planning Services, Ltd., with Diane Maloney.

 

She earned her Illinois life, health, and disability insurance licenses and FINRA Series 6 and 63 registrations and worked as a licensed representative until 2002. She transitioned into her current position after successfully completing her studies and examination with the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado, to become a Registered ParaplannerSM.

 

In this capacity, she directly supports the activities of the Certified Financial Planner professionals. She is specifically responsible for gathering, entering, and analyzing financial data; creating and updating comprehensive financial plans; and providing clients with written summaries of their meetings.

 

Mary enjoys spending time with her family and friends, nature, cooking, yoga, and tennis. She and her family are worldwide travelers.

Adam C. Johnson, Administrative Assistant

Adam joined the Beacon Financial Planning Services, Ltd. staff in May of 2011 as a summer intern.  He is a 2010 graduate of Joliet West High School and is currently working on a degree in Business Administration at McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois.

Adam is also a member of the McKendree University Men's Bowling Team.  He has bowled three 300 games and has a USBC sanctioned high series of 847.  As a three time qualifier for the USBC Junior Gold National Championships, Adam has competed with the nation's top youth bowlers in Detroit, Indianapolis and Las Vegas.

Other hobbies and interests:  Avid Chicago White Sox fan, fishing and traveling.

James R. Maloney, Bookkeeper

Jim is an integral member of Beacon Financial Planning Services, Ltd.  He is responsible for maintaining business records, preparing payroll, ordering supplies and keeping watch over expenses.

 

Jim is a retired school administrator and holds a B.A., from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, a M.A. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and an Ed.D degree from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Prior to his academic career, he volunteered for the draft and served in the US Army. Today, he maintains a vigorous workout schedule at his health club, is an avid student of history, especially military history, but also reads widely on a variety of topics. He is a world wide traveler.
